Falcons prepare for MAC Tournament clash against top-seeded Akron

The Bowling Green State University (BGSU) men's basketball team is set to face the top-seeded Akron Zips in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, March 13. The game will take place at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, at 11 a.m., and will be broadcast on ESPN+. Radio coverage will be provided by Todd Walker on WFRO Eagle 99.

This matchup marks the 75th meeting between BGSU and Akron, with Akron leading the series 46-28. The two teams have met five times previously in the MAC Tournament, with Akron holding a slight edge of 3-2. BGSU secured victories against Akron in the tournament during the 2001-02 and 1998-99 seasons.

Bowling Green ended their regular season strong, winning seven of their last ten games and leading the MAC in several defensive categories. They allowed an average of 66.8 points per game and held opponents to a field goal percentage of 41.4%. Conversely, Akron led the conference offensively, averaging 83.9 points per game with a field goal percentage of 49.9%.

Akron claimed the regular season title with a conference record of 17-1, suffering only one MAC loss to Ohio on February 22. Throughout the season, they recorded just six losses overall.

For BGSU, Marcus Johnson is nearing a personal milestone as he approaches his 500th point this season. Javontae Campbell has also made notable contributions defensively, breaking BGSU's single-season steals record with 86 steals.

Freshman Jamai Felt has emerged as a key player for BGSU this season after overcoming injuries to lead the MAC in blocks with an average of 1.5 per game.
