Macie Elzinga wins Michigan Women's Amateur Championship | Bowling Green Falcons Women's Golf
Macie Elzinga, a member of the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) women's golf team, secured victory at the 109th Michigan Women's Amateur Championship. The event took place on Friday, July 11, at Eagle Eye Golf Club in East Lansing, Michigan.
The championship commenced with two rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday. Elzinga recorded a score of 72 in each round, tying for ninth place initially. She then proceeded to win five consecutive matches and achieved a score of 69 in the final round on Friday to claim the tournament's top position.
As a result of her win, Elzinga has earned an exemption from the United States Golf Association (USGA) to participate in the US Women's Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes in Oregon from August 4-10.
Elzinga is entering her sophomore year at BGSU and aims for another successful season with the Orange and Brown team. She was one of six Falcons recognized as an All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.
The BGSU women's golf team recently completed its most successful season yet, finishing second at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships and securing an invitation to the National Golf Invitational.
