Bowling Green State University Associate Head Coach Lourawls Nairn Jr. has been named head coach of the Bahamas Senior Men's National Team for the upcoming FIBA AmeriCup, which will be held in Nicaragua from August 22 to 31. The Bahamas is set to compete in Group A alongside the United States, Brazil, and Uruguay, with its first game scheduled against the United States on August 23.

Nairn, who is originally from Nassau, Bahamas, has a long history of representing his country internationally. He began playing for the national team at age 16 and was part of the Bahamian squad during the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifying round in 2018. More recently, he played for the Bahamas in Olympic qualifying tournaments over the past two summers and helped lead the team to a final-round appearance.

"I can't put into words what this opportunity means to me," said Nairn. "Anytime you get a chance to represent your country it's a blessing. I'm honored, humbled, and won't take it for granted."

Nairn joined Bowling Green's coaching staff as an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season and was promoted to associate head coach before the start of the current campaign. He previously worked with Falcons head coach Todd Simon at Southern Utah during the 2022-23 season.

"We are proud of Coach Nairn and the work he has put in to be put in position to lead his national team," said BGSU head coach Todd Simon. "He will do a great job and lead the Bahamas with passion and enthusiasm."

Before joining Bowling Green's staff, Nairn served as head coach at Sunrise Christian Academy during the 2021-22 season. Under his leadership, Sunrise Christian Academy posted a 21-win season and reached the Elite Eight in the National Prep Tournament.

After fulfilling his duties with the Bahamas national team at AmeriCup, Nairn is expected to return to Bowling Green and resume his role as associate head coach.
